Probably the Best Scouts....

Three members of Gillingham Scout Network have completed one of the toughest awards in Scouting - the Explorer Belt. Rob Gill, Michael Hayward and Joe Phillips travelled to Denmark for the 10-day challenge. The main purpose of the visit was to discover the history of the Danish Royal family. They stayed with local Scout Groups forging international links.

During their time in Denmark the awards team also set them a series of mini-challenges. These included the comparison of the English and Danish education system, religion and culture. The three lads learnt a cottage industry, met local people and spoke on national radio.

There was time for fun too with a visit to Legoland (and a challenge to build a castle). The final challenge was to discover if the Danes believe Carlsberg to be the best lager in the world!

Rob, Joe and Michael joined 8th Gillingham Scout Group as Beavers and have progressed through all the sections in Scouting. At their award presentation they gave the Group a framed scarf, specially designed by themselves for the Explorer Belt, by way of thanks for the support shown to them over the last year.

If Carlsberg made Scouts, they’d probably be the best Scouts in the world...or Gillingham for the time being anyway!
