Gillingham Scouts support ShelterBox

On the 26th November 2011, Gillingham Scouts took part in our Bingo Night held at St. Paul's Church, Parkwood. The night was organised by the Young Commissioners: James Bowring, Mandy Keywood and Dan Goodman with all the support, help and guidance needed from the District Support Unit.

We couldn't have hoped for a better turn out, scouts all brought their families and friends with them and we soon filled the church hall. Refreshments and raffle raised extra funds during the evening with some tremendous raffle prizes including tickets to Leeds Castle, Diggerland, Chatham Dockyard, Dicken's World, Odeon cinema, plus many more prizes. I would like to say a massive thank you to both Dani Dunster and Demi Birch for their amazing entertainment during the night; it wouldn't have been the same without you both!

Shelter box is a disaster relief Charity that supplies lifesaving support and help, no matter where it is in the world. Whether it is a flood, earthquake, tsunami or any other type of disaster Shelterbox will deploy their response teams almost immediately. This lifesaving work, that has saved thousands of families, is all based on donations and volunteers from the public. Gillingham District Scouts decided to raise the £590 needed for a large, green shelterbox after a presentation at the last AGM by their representative David Hatcher.

On the night we managed to make a huge profit of £224.31, all going towards our project of raising enough money for a shelterbox. With other funding, raised by the 17th and County SAS Quiz night, our total now stands at £312.85. We are now over half-way.
