New District Commissioner for Gillingham - 06-07-2009

Dean Harding has been appointed Acting District Commissioner for the Gillingham Scout District with responsibility for Scouting and its development in the Rainham, Gillingham, Brompton, Twydall, Wigmore, Parkwood and Hempstead areas.

The Gillingham Scout District has just celebrated its first 100 years of Scouting and Dean has accepted the challenge of leading the District into its next 100 years.

Dean, who will carry out the role in conjunction with his existing appointment of Assistant County Commissioner (Scouts), is well known within the Gillingham Scout District having run one of the largest and active Groups over the past several years. He was first appointed as a Leader in 1989.

His appointment comes shortly after the announcement that the next Chief Scout will be the well known adventurer Bear Grylls, best known for his TV series Born Survivor and Man Vs Wild. Find out more about Bear Grylls at http://www.scouts.org.uk
Bear is quoted as saying ‘EVERY CHILD HAS THE RIGHT TO ADVENTURE’

With this in his mind, Dean is keen to promote active growth and development of Scouting facilities in Gillingham and broaden the opportunities available to all young people in the area. Providing quality Scouting, coupled with fun and adventure, for an increasing number of young people is a key challenge.
